TIPS TO KEEP YOUR HEART REMAIN HEALTHY
But actually there are ways we can do to keep our hearts healthy. Three easy, fun ways are as follows:
Eating dark chocolate
Dark chocolate or dark chocolate is believed to lower blood pressure, which indirectly contributes to maintaining heart health. An Italian study showed that people with prediabetes and hypertension managed to lower their risk of disease by eating 3.5 ounces of dark chocolate every day for 15 days. This is thanks to the flavonoid-antioxidant compounds found in dark chocolate. However, we need to choose exactly the type of chocolate in question. Choose dark chocolate with a minimum cocoa content of 65%.
Playing games
Playing games can calm the mind and keep us from stress. However, the game in question is a video game that involves us actively moving, which uses motion sensors, such as boxing and jogging. Timothy Church, MD, chair of the Physical Activity committee at the American Heart Association, states playing motion sensor-based games is as good as doing activities in the gym, as long as we play at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity a week.
Laugh
Laughter seems to have its own benefits, especially in maintaining healthy arteries. According to a 2006 study at the University of Maryland, laughing at funny scenes causes blood vessels to dilate by 22%. Laughter causes the tissue that forms the inner lining of your blood vessels to expand, allowing for increased blood flow and reduced blood pressure. For heart health in particular, we have to laugh at least 15 minutes a day to benefit from this activity.
